'WILLIAM HILL was born in Newburyport, Mass., in 1809. According to his
granddaughter Avis, he was by occupation a cabinet maker and lived in
Salem, Mass. After the early death of his first wife, William married
Avis Watson, at Salem, in about 1845, and himself died at New Orleans in
1858; his widow long survived him, living in Salem until 1889. The only
son of this marriage was William Watson Hill, born in 1851.'
