The photograph used as the 'logo' for this site is of an oil painting from the collection of Ken Coar. It was passed to him by his father, Richard John Coar, in 1990. Judging from the condition of the frame, the canvas, and the clothing style, it appears to have been painted from life sometime in the early to mid 19^th century. A larger version is shown below.

The best guess to date is that the painting is of Seth Coar.
